The trip

After leaving the Eastern Docks, a former sea harbour, we will be crossing the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal and enter the Oranjesluizen (waterlocks), our access to the IJsselmeer.

Once we arrive on this former inland sea, we will set sail and pass by some absolute highlights: Old fisherman village Durgerdam, the old Lighthouse tower peninsula Vuurtoreneiland and Pampus island. on the other side you'll see IJburg, where new land is being created for our expanding city.

No lunch is provided, please send me a message after booking if you want me to arrange for lunch (bread, cheese, herring - 17,50EUR).

Originally zeeschouwen where build for fishing purposes at the end of the 19th century. A zeeschouw was cheaper to build with its bulky, square shape. Later, like this model from the 60’s the zeeschouwen where also build for leisure with facilities like beds, toilet and kitchen.

Typical for the flat-bottomed sailing boats is that they are missing a central keel, therefore the typical long side wooden swords are added. These relatively wide (and heavy) flat bottomed sailboats are much less prone to leaning over, making the sailing trip very comfortable also for 'first timers'.

After moving to a houseboat in the Eastern Docks, sailing became a possibility and I was lucky to be able to take over the Green Frog. My daily business is trade of good products and I like to spend a lot of time with my family. At the same time I love being on the water and meeting people from across the globe.

At Houseboatamsterdam.net, I have sailed classic boats in the Canals of Amsterdam commercially with small groups of tourists. Also I have rented out small, B&B boats around Amsterdam, including a sauna boat. Focus of my company is shifting more to activities, nature of the surroundings of Amsterdam. This small group tour is our latest addition!
